Interview Summary
This interview with Ahmad Saeed begins with a discussion of his childhood in Aligarh (India). Saeed traces his educational history from the Aligarh University Secondary School to Aligarh Muslim University. He talks about life at the university, as well as the Aligarh Exhibition, a gathering to celebrate trade and industry in the city of Aligarh (India). Saeed then talks about the Aligarh Students' Union. He also talks about Aligarh Muslim University students who were involved in the Pakistan movement. Next, Saeed talks about the role of Islam in his life, including his religious education and the importance of religion to the students at Aligarh Muslim University, as well as the conflict between left-leaning Communist students and right-leaning religious conservatives. Saeed talks about his extracurricular activities, including wrestling and horseback riding. He then talks about his reactions to the death of Mohandas Gandhi and Mahomed Ali Jinnah. Finally, Saeed talks about his identity as an Indian. He also talks about the importance of Aligarh Muslim University in his life, as well as his feeling about fellow graduates of Aligarh Muslim University, as well as his involvement in the Mr. University competition, a wrestling competition between male students.Interview Accession
