Interview Summary

The Jones' discuss their activities and membership in the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) during the late 1950's and early 1960's. Participation in acts of civil disobedience including sit-ins, stand-ins, marches, boycotts, and being arrested at the Strand Theater are detailed. The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King's influence, and activists such as Abby Marlatt, Edward Morin, Ronald Berry, Laura Massie, and Judge Richard Moloney are remembered. The University of Kentucky's attitude towards CORE is also examined, as is the white community's reaction. They speak about the Lexington Committee on Human Relations and the Human Rights Commission, and remember the Reginald O'Rourke murder.
