Interview with Brittney White, September 23, 2020
Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Brittney White grew up in Rochester, New York. She loved the National Geographic channel so much, her father dubbed it - “The Brittney Channel”. She graduated from Temple University in African American Studies. While serving with AmeriCorps, she met a recruiter for the Peace Corps. The challenge with her application was mostly financial! During Pre-Service Training, the grandmother of her host family claimed San Martin had entered the house and brought good luck – the story of a black saint! Brittney is African-American. Brittney was assigned to a hospital (after school health education) and school (girls’s health) in Bagua Chica in Amazona. She also held TEFL classes. Her counterpart changed after first year, changed religions and now rejected the services she provided! Brittney created a blog and engaged in 3rd Goal activities during service. Language opened up music, relationships, and the world. You are American whether you feel it or not.Interview Accession
