Interview Summary
Mr. Seals recalls his early educational experiences and laments the segregation which kept him from attending a college in Lexington. He was forced to go to the University of Cincinnati. Teaching at Lincoln Institute for years and at Russell School where he would later become principal, Seals recalls his early teaching experiences and the overall conditions of African American schools. The differences between African American and white teachers are reiterated as are the inequalities of the respective class sizes and pay scales of segregated schools. The role of African American teachers in the community is also discussed.Interview Accession
