Interview Summary

Danny Gardella was a left fielder in Major League baseball. He also played in the Mexican League. He is remembered as the first Major League player to challenge the reserve clause. His and others' efforts brought about free agency for players and multimillion-dollar player contracts. In this interview, he talks about his Major League career during World War II, his time playing for the Mexican League, his court case (Gardella v. Chandler), his reasons for not dropping the suit, and his life after his career as a baseball player.
