Interview Summary
Jim and Linda Bingen served as a married couple in Benin (then Dahomey), West Africa from 1967 through 1969. They worked in a French-funded Ruralization of Education Program. They spoke about their decision to join the Peace Corps and their memorable training experiences from Baker, Louisiana, to the St. Croix Peace Corps Virgin Islands Training Center and a one-month live-in experience with a rural family in La Pastora, Trinidad. Jim and Linda shared experiences working as the first Americans working in rural development in Dahomey. Jim supported the introduction of school gardens and fields in ten primary schools. Linda designed and taught a new program of nutrition and child health care for the young primary school girls. During their service they also participated in 1969 WHO Smallpox-Measles Campaign.Interview Accession
