Interview Summary
Reverend Smith graduated from Dunbar High School, Kentucky State College and Virginia Union University, and is the pastor of Evergreen Baptist Church. He talks about his father's ministerial career as well as his own. The role of the African American church during World War II and the civil rights struggle is recalled, as are the effects of the marches and sit-ins. The lack of interaction with white churches, the integration of the schools, and the influence of the African American churches within the business community are also featured.Interview Accession
