Interview Summary

Governor Wetherby begins by addressing the emotions by the candidates during election time, and how he prioritized his time while on the campaign as to where he was going to stop and help and where he could not. He discusses how the media followed his at his stops on the campaign. Governor Wetherby discusses the 1954 Kentucky General Assembly. He sits down with John Kleber, the interviewer and itemizes the budget proposed by the Governor during the Assembly. This discussion broadens into a talk about generating revenue in Kentucky by increasing several taxes and then the appropriation of that revenue. He gives a story of what happened when one of his avid supporters of the bill he was purposing was bribed to do otherwise. Wetherby finishes this interview discussing the coal mine fields in Kentucky and the influence of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad during his administration.
