Interview Summary
Charles and Doris Foster reflect upon their friendship with Robert Penn Warren, which began while they all lived in Iowa. Charles and Warren met as colleagues at the University of Iowa, while Doris knew the author through her husband. Charles Foster discusses their friendship after Warren's departure from Iowa, as well as the author's place among American novelists. The literary influences and characteristics of Warren are examined. Additionally, the literary criticism of Warren is discussed, along with the professors' shared interest in the Civil War. Next, the Fosters' relationship with Warren recently is described, accompanied by a personal anecdote recalled by Doris Foster.Interview Accession
