Interview Summary

In this interview Carrey Miller discusses his time in the Vietnam War. Miller enrolled at Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets to join the army instead of being drafted. He graduated and was sent to Fort Rucker Alabama to become a helicopter pilot and learned to fly helicopters. He was in Vietnam from November of 1965 till November of 1966. He knew this meant he was going to Vietnam and was the only officer in his class to be sent there. In Vietnam he flew helicopters bringing troops into the jungle and picking troops up. During his year in Vietnam, he was promoted to a captain. He was shot at and has pictures of him next to his chopper with the bullet holes in it. His home base was in Tuy Hoa, where he flew a Huey. After his time in Vietnam, he was offered the chance to go to Germany and become a captain, but he turned it down because he knew he would be redeployed to Vietnam after a year in Germany.
