Interview with Catherine A. Brereton, April 6, 2013
Project: Student Projects: LIS 642: Library and Information Science Students Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Catherine Anne Brereton, a non-traditional, international student at the University of Kentucky, comments on the uniqueness of growing up in a small English town, Chisworth, Derbyshire, and how her experiences there shaped the rest of her life. Catherine's marriage to Christopher Farr, coming out and relationship with Susan Stewart, and her move to the United States with daughters Rebecca Brereton-Farr and Isabelle Brereton-Farr comprise the majority of the interview. Catherine's remarks on her experiences in the United States offer a candid assessment of both the opportunities and challenges she has had to overcome in her (then) four years in the country. Of particular interest for members of the University of Kentucky and LGBT communities is the final portion of the interview in which Catherine discusses The Diversity project, a knitted blanket celebrating LGBT identity completed as a jury project for the Gaines Center for the Humanities. Additional topics of interest include the role of writing in Catherine's life and her career as a hypnotherapist.Interview Accession
