Interview Summary
Dr. William (Bill) McGee joined the Hagyard veterinary firm in Lexington, Kentucky in 1940. Throughout his long and distinguished career he cared for some of the most celebrated Thoroughbreds in history, including Man O' War. McGee tells of his coming to Kentucky and working with doctors Edward Hagyard, Charlie Hagyard, and Art Davidson. He reflects on the many changes in equine care that he has experienced and discusses the challenges posed by viruses, parasites, and various medical conditions related to foals and mares. He specialized in reproductive medicine. McGee also tells of caring for Man O' War during his last years and shares his memories of the day the horse died.Interview Accession
