Interview Summary
Kenneth Shaw served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia, in 2017, in the Agriculture Program. At age 8, after seeing Sargent Shriver on television, Ken told his mother he was going to join Peace Corps. At age 60 he applied, after a varied career. Ken’s degree is in Environmental Planning, and he is also an actor. Ken was invited to be part of an Agriculture Group in Zambia. His training was conducted in Chipembi, at the Peace Corps Central Province training site. He lived with a host family in the nearby village of Chamukah. Training included ChiTonga language, culture, safety, and agriculture. Ken was assigned to the village of Siamuleya. His service ended late in the first year due to an injury. Ken developed strong relationships with many local people. Before leaving Zambia, Ken met the chairperson of the National Arts Council, and spoke to her about returning to start an acting education program. He has returned to Zambia once, and plans to return again to continue his work, and relationships with local friends.Interview Accession
