Interview with Mary Edwards, September 3, 2013

Interview Summary

Edwards, who is seventy-three years old, lives in West Keansburg with her sister in a six bedroom and two bathroom house. When Edwards first heard about the storm she was scared because she lived near the water. Her brother lives in the middle of Hazlet where he was not surrounded by water so Edwards decided to go there while her sister went to stay with her son. To prepare for the storm, Edwards and her sister just shut everything off. During the storm and even before the storm there was no power at her brother's. She says the weather consisted of wind and that was the worst part of the storm at her brother's.

After the storm, Edwards says that her brother had a lot of trees down but no water damage. Two days after the storm hit, Edwards went home because there was no water around her house. There were some trees down, leaves and twigs everywhere, but wasn't bad at all Edwards says. They were very fortunate. She was not able to leave her house for about two weeks because there was not transportation so her brother and her sister's son helped them out after the storm. Edwards does not think that her neighborhood will ever be back to normal.
