Interview Summary

Florene Smith was born and raised in Kingdom Come, Kentucky, a small community in Letcher County. Her parents farmed, and she talks about the different things that they raised and how they preserved food. She talks about making lye soap and washing clothes and dishes with it. She describes her childhood home and the grade school she went to.
