Interview Summary

Quarter Horse trainer Bennie Sargent owns High Point Equestrian Center in Georgetown, Kentucky. Raised on a farm in Scott County, Sargent tells how he developed his interest in Quarter Horses as a young man and worked to establish himself as a nationally recognized trainer, winning multiple American Quarter Horse Association championships. In 2006 he became the first Kentuckian to be named the AQHA Professional Horseman of the Year. Sargent reflects on his early years as a trainer, his judging experiences, the significance of the Quarter Horse in Kentucky, and the challenges of working in the industry. He also discusses the status of Quarter Horse racing in the state, the Breeders Incentive Fund, and issues such as gaming and horse slaughter.
