Interview Summary

Wilson Wyatt first assesses President John F. Kennedy's administration, including his role in the Cuban Missile Crisis and the creation of the Peace Corps. Wyatt discusses the 1963 gubernatorial contest in Kentucky between Edward "Ned" Breathitt and Happy Chandler, and he describes the 1964 Democratic National Convention, dominated by Lyndon B. Johnson. Wyatt discusses his wife's participation in the convention and comments more generally on the participation of women in politics. He touches on Ned Breathitt's governorship, and moves on to discuss at length the re-establishment of his law practice in Louisville, Kentucky, including in this discussion the rarity of female and Black lawyers in the 1960s, his belief that lawyers should be involved in the community and in politics, the viability of night schools, and conflicts of interest among lawyers.
