Interview Summary
Dr. F. DeVere Smith received his PhD in economics from the University of Kentucky in 1952. In this interview he discusses his undergraduate education, and why he chose to attend the University of Kentucky to obtain his doctorate. He talks about his impressions of the UK faculty and facilities. He discusses the process of defending his dissertation topic, taking his oral exam, and his week-long qualifying exam. He talks about his doctoral committee and tells several stories about other UK faculty members. He discusses his leisure activities, interest in athletics, and where he lived while attending UK.
