Interview Summary

Former Kentucky politician, Earle C. Clements was a governor of Kentucky and served as a U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative. Clements has been appointed to various offices like Kentucky State Highway Commissioner and director of the U.S. Senate Democratic Campaign Committee, among others. He served as the president of the Tobacco Institute for more than a decade.

Here Clements is interviewed by James W. Hammack Jr. and Forrest C. Pogue. Clements discusses his family and family name. He also talks about working on the farm as a child and how it helped in his work with the tobacco industry. Topics include: natural resources of Kentucky, limited social history of Kentucky, and Clements' experiences with dignitaries and well-known personalities from Kentucky.
