Interview Summary

Dunster Pettit, a friend of Cooper's in the early 1920s, begins the interview by remembering when she first met Cooper. Pettit details her family and their involvement in politics. Pettit recalls traveling with her mother to promote women's suffrage in the U.S. Pettit discusses politics later in her life. Pettit reflects upon Cooper's visits to her father and brothers during her childhood. Pettit details learning French as a child. Pettit illustrates the lives of her daughter and son. Additionally, Pettit, talks of her contact with Cooper over the years. Cooper's life is also explored, including his career and family. Pettit discusses her education at a finishing school in Washington D.C. Pettit remembers meeting President Coolidge in the early 1920s at the White House. Pettit details her involvement in theater in Lexington. To conclude the interview, Pettit talks of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
