Interview Summary
In this interview, Susan Schmidt Horning talks with audio engineer Malcolm Addey. The interview begins with a discussion of Addey's childhood and background in audio engineering. It then moves on to a conversation about the different levels of audio engineering, as well as the preferred name for the profession.Addey gives a chronology of his career and talks about the training he received in order to enter the profession. He also gives his reasons for refusing to join audio engineering organizations. Addey then shares his opinions on fellow audio engineering Phil Schaap.
The interview continues with Addey talking about EMI (Electrical and Musical Industries) and his work with and opinions on The Beatles.
Finally, Addey discusses his time at Bell Sound Studios and the role of music producers.
