Interview Summary
Ted Bassett began his career in the Thoroughbred industry in 1967 when he became assistant to the president of the Keeneland Association. Over the next four decades, Bassett's tenure as president, chairman of the board, and trustee of Keeneland placed him among the most influential leaders in the history of Thoroughbred racing. In this interview Bassett shares stories of his childhood and formative years at Kent School. He discusses his father's work as farm manager at Greentree Stud, his memories of the Whitney family, and the influence of Major Louie Beard. Basset also reflects on his work as director of the Kentucky State Police during the 1960's.Interview Accession
