Interview Summary

This interview with General Wajarhat Hussain begins with a discussion of the Agaratala Conspiracy Case, an incident in the 1960s in which high-level military commanders and political officials sought to destabilize the country. It then leads to a lengthy discussion about Hussain's involvement in administering martial law after the 1958 Pakistani coup d'?tat by dictator Ayub Khan. He also spends time talking about his own lack of political aspiration, as well as Pakistan in general in the 1950s. Hussain also spends time talking about the time he spent in the United States in the 1950s. Finally, Hussain discusses his own training and his experiences teaching at various military academies. He also tells the story of an incident involving a downed plane belonging to the Indian Air Force.
