Interview Summary

In this interview, C. Oran Little describes working with graduate students, and mentions former students. Little talks further about his first few years as Dean of the University of Kentucky, College of Agriculture. He recalls the situation when he arrived including the drop in student enrollment and pressure about what would replace tobacco in the state's economy. Little talks about Ag 2000 which was a set of goals for the economic development of agriculture. He states that his goals included improving the quality of 4-H programs, and increasing the salaries of county agents. Little describes the importance of getting members of the College of Agriculture out in the state and talking to people. He discusses Dean Charles Barnhart's plan to sell Coldstream Farm, and explains how the administration of the University of Kentucky stopped this from happening. He describes the search for a new agriculture farm. He explains that they looked at Brookside Farms, but eventually the Kentucky legislature appropriated the money to buy Pin Oak. He discusses the decision to build a research park at Coldstream and how this hurt agricultural research. Little also provides his impressions of Governor Wallace Wilkinson.
