Interview Summary

Dr. King discussed his early political career in New York State, and how it led him first to be chancellor of the SUNY system and then president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education; explained his philanthropic work in Arizona; compared the Kentucky Community and Technical College System to other systems with which he was affiliated; his early days at CPE and his meetings with university administrators; his relationship with CPE board, especially Paul Patton; Common Core education reforms and misperceptions surrounding it; his emphasis on working with elementary and high schools to better prepare students for colleges, thereby cutting down on the need for remedial courses; and college retention rates.
