Interview Summary
Lex Lawson grew up in Berea, Kentucky. In this interview they talk about feeling like they did not belong in their community, and about discovering sexuality and gender. They talk about coming out as bisexual in high school and their parents' reactions to their interest in gender variance and punk culture. They talk about moving to Richmond, Kentucky to attend Eastern Kentucky University and their difficulty making connections while there due to anxiety and insecurity. They talk about what it is like to return to Appalachia and how it feels to hide their identity. They talk about what it means to be genderqueer and how it has changed how others perceive them.Interview Accession
