Interview Summary
Jennifer Coulson served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jamaica, from 2015 through 2017, in the Education Program. Jennifer graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Psychology, and decided to go into education. A few years later she felt a need to do something more, and a friend suggested she volunteer with Peace Corps. She was invited to serve with the Jamaica 86 cohort. After a few days training in Kingston, the group moved to Hellshire, where Jennifer lived with a host family. Training included Patois language, culture, health, and safety. Education volunteers later moved to Guys Hill for education training. Jennifer’s assignment was as a primary school in Troy, Trelawny Parish, where she worked with kids struggling with reading. The interview discusses her training and work experiences, life in rural Jamaica, reflections on Peace Corps service, and continuing connections with fellow PCVs and Jamaican friends.Interview Accession
