Interview Summary
Glenn K. Greathouse (1929- ) is a farrier from Lexington, Kentucky. In this interview, Greathouse discusses growing up in Midway and Lexington in the 1940s and 1950s and his memories about some of the horse farms in the vicinity. He speaks about an early job taking care of horses and his apprenticeship with an established farrier that led to his fifty-year-long career. Greathouse also discusses how he only worked on farms (and not racetracks) and the various Central Kentucky horse farms where he was employed. He also talks about seeking advice and sharing information with a small group of farriers in the area. Other topics include his farrier shop, his presidency of the Bluegrass Horseshoers Association, veterinarians, and the growth of the horse industry in Central Kentucky.Interview Accession
