Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Geoffrey Glenn served in Ukraine, 2016-2018, as an Community and Economic Development volunteer. He and his Ukrainian wife are currently (May 13, 2022) in Poland working with Rotary International and RPCV of Ukraine Alliance to provide humanitarian aid during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. While investigating a PhD program, Geoffrey learned he could receive graduate credit working with Peace Corps. He opted for Peace Corps instead. His children told him “you have to go.” Staging was in Florida, and 12 weeks of training were in Chernihiv near Chernobyl. Permanent site was Dubno, Ukraine where Geoffrey worked with counterpart and friend Mykola on some 74 projects (!). These included a wheelchair accessibility project and an Environmental Education Workshop for teens. The workshop resulted in the formation of an NGO and recognition by Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler–Radelet. For Geoffrey, aside from family, serving others is the greatest thing one can do.Interview Accession
