Interview Summary
As a result of a back injury sustained while serving in Durg, Michael was transferred to Bombay (now Mumbai) to test the feasibility of operating community development programs in Asia. As part of the pilot test, he worked with the Nagpada Neighborhood House serving Moslem and Jewish communities in the Nagpada neighborhood of Bombay. He started a youth sports program and worked with local businesses. The pilot led to a community development program in India and other parts of Asia. In the US, he helped train the first community development volunteers for India. He emphasizes the importance of providing flexibility for volunteers in such programs.Interview Accession
