Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Dan served as a health and sanitation volunteer in Peace Corps El Salvador from 2002-2006 and worked as a staff member in Peace Corps Mozambique from 2015-2020 and Peace Corps Ecuador from 2002-Present. Dan talks about his experience at his service site in Cantón Atiluya and his work with a local development committee to build a health center. He also talks about being medically evacuated one year into placement and the impact it had on his service. Dan served for a second two-year term in the capital city of San Salvador and he discusses how his experience differed between the two terms. He continues by describing his role as the Country Deputy Director in Mozambique from 2015-2020. He began working as the Director of Programming and Training in Ecuador in 2020 as volunteers were evacuated worldwide and talks about preparations for volunteers’ arrival.
