Interview with Emma Luu Van Lang, August 25, 2020
Project: Peace Corps: COVID-19 Evacuated Peace Corps Volunteers Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Emma Luu Van Lang served as a Peace Corps volunteer assigned to Kédougou, Senegal from February 2018 until she was evacuated because of COVID-19 in March 2020. Primarily, she worked with teachers on a malaria prevention, testing, and treatment program, which she hopes will be replicated in other parts of malaria-affected south Senegal. She also worked with a group of pregnant women through the Dalaba Heath Post and served as a counselor in the Kedougou region summer camp. She talks about her relationship with co-workers and students and her continued close connection with her host family, the rushed evacuation from Senegal, and her plans for graduate school in Spain this fall. She ends with a reflection on how her experience addressed the three Peace Corps goals.Interview Accession
