Interview Summary
Davis discusses how he became involved with Happy Chandler's political life. He talks about working for the Chandler campaign for governor in the early 1950s. Davis discusses Chandler's return to Kentucky politics after leaving the governorship to become a senator and Commissioner of Baseball. He discusses in great detail Chandler's 1955 gubernatorial campaign, including his advantages, his campaign strategy, his opponents, the factions that supported Chandler, and accusations of corruption against Chandler. He discusses Chandler's second administration in great detail, including his major accomplishments, his road building program, his decision to desegregate the public schools, and more on the accusations of corruption and scandals.
