Project Summary
This is a series of interviews with the University of Kentucky Chancellor and Professor Emeritus James W. Holsinger, Jr. MD, PhD. Holsinger's duties during his many years at the University have included Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health and Health Management and Policy in the College of Public Health; and Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Anatomy in the UK College of Medicine. As an executive, he oversees the management of the state’s health and social services programs, including the Medicaid program, Public Health system, the Department for Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services and Department for Community Based Services. He served as Secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services of the Commonwealth of Kentucky under Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher, and the U.S. Veterans Affairs as Chief Medical Director of the Veterans Health Administration and Undersecretary for Health. Dr. Holsinger served for more than 31 years in the United States Army Reserve, serving the Joint Staff as Assistant Director for Logistics. He retired from the Army Reserves in 1993 as Major General.Project Code
