Interview Summary

Johnson begins the interview with a discussion of a centennial report written up about his hometown in Maury County, and how it omits the contributions of African Americans. He then gives an account of his experiences with police brutality in the early 1900s, and the psychological effects that this fear has on African Americans. He then talks about the social clubs and gatherings of African Americans in the 1920s and '30s, especially in Louisville. He also talks about colorism in African American society, and the different experiences of light and dark skinned African Americans.
