Interview Summary
Diane Hibino served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bolivia from 1967 to 1970, in the Health Program. She applied to Peace Corps during her senior year at American University, where she majored in International Relations. She was selected for service in Bolivia, in the Tuberculosis Eradication Program. Training was conducted in Bothell, Washington, with an additional three weeks in La Paz. She was posted in the town of Caranavi. Her work included performing tuberculosis testing and vaccinations in outlying villages. She extended her service and worked at the Peace Corps Office in La Paz, helping to train follow up TB Eradication groups. Diane married a Bolivian man, returned to the U.S., and moved again to Bolivia for five years. She later worked for Peace Corps in D.C., and as Peace Corps Bolivia staff from 1991 to 1996, including as Country Director. The interview includes discussion of her service, treatment as a Japanese-American and female volunteer, and views on Peace Corps from volunteer and staff perspectives.Interview Accession
