Interview with Sergio Arispe, December 15, 2021

Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Sergio Arispe served in Ecuador from 2004 - 2006 in the town of Illaguachico in the province of Tungurahua as part of the Animal Production program. Arispe was inspired to serve when a professor in grad school talked about the Peace Corps and "the light went on." Arispe lived and worked with a rural indigenous community. Arispe notes that integration as a daily practice and staying at his site were the keys to being welcomed and trusted by the community. He is still in contact with many from his community to this day.
