Interview Summary
J’Ana Diamond served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in China from June 2019 to February 2020, in the Education Program. She was accepted on her third application, after gaining experience as a substitute teacher and tennis coach. Diamond identifies as Afro-Latina. Her training was at Sichuan University in Chengdu. Housing was with a host family, who spoke no English. Her assignment was at Anshun University in Guizhou, where she taught English. Housing was in a dormitory on campus, along with other faculty and students. Diamond was on vacation in Thailand when evacuation due to COVID-19 was announced. She was not able to return to China to retrieve her belongings or say goodbye to students and coworkers. The interview discusses her experiences with applying, training, working, living with a host family, and evacuation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Interview Accession
