Interview Summary

Prichard discusses politicians from Kentucky who served in the federal government during the Roosevelt administration before World War II, such as Fred Vinson and Alben Barkley. He describes the Senatorial race between Happy Chandler and Barkley. Discussing the socioeconomic landscape of Kentucky in the 1930s, he describes the activities of the United Mine Workers Union, as well as the conditions of education, the effects of particular New Deal programs, writers from Kentucky, the status of African Americans, and the state's interventionist stance toward the looming world war.
