Interview Summary

Emilie Belak discusses the impact that quilting has had on her life and how she juggles working a full time job, having a family, and quilting. She talks about her famous flower quilts by the names of "In Praise of Poppies", "In Love with Irises", and "In Celebration of Roses". She goes in-depth about the process she follows in making her quilts as well as the different materials that she uses and the trial and error that she has gone through to perfect her process. She discusses how quilting fits into her busy life and the support her family has for her in her quilting adventures. Her immigration from her home country of Czechoslovakia and why she does not use her quilts to make political statements is touched on in a heartfelt moment between her and the interviewer. She talks about the feeling of happiness her quilts give her and how she wants her quilts to make others feel the same way.
