Interview Summary

John Davis is a lifelong resident of Mayfield and served as a police officer for Mayfield PD for 20 years, with the last four years of his time with Mayfield PD serving as Chief of Police. Davis then went on to serve as Sheriff of Graves County for twelve years. After his retirement Davis has dedicated his time to preserve the history of Mayfield. In the interview, Mr. Davis recounts his memories of growing up in Mayfield, his time serving in various public service roles, and his current role as a local historian for Mayfield. He discusses the tornado events of December 10, 2021 and the devastation it caused to the downtown area, and to the community as a whole. He also recounts his plans to open a Mayfield Museum in the historic Ice House, which was destroyed in the tornado, along with all the historic artifacts that were to be housed there. Davis shares his thoughts about the recovery efforts and the future of Mayfield.
