Interview Summary
Renee Shaw, at the time of this interview, is the Public Affairs Managing Producer & Host at KET. She has been with KET since 1997. In this interview, she discusses her childhood and family background, growing up in rural Tennessee in a predominately white community. She discusses her education, and the mentors and role models who shaped her and helped make her career in broadcast journalism possible. She discusses how her perspective influences her journalism, the intersection of journalism and activism, and the role of journalism in a time of 'fake news.' She discusses the current political climate, both nationally and in the state of Kentucky and what must be done to find common ground among all people. She discusses issues including the achievement gap, poverty, race relations, representation of marginal voices, and political discontent.Interview Accession
