Interview with John and Maureen Piasecki, March 25, 2013
Project: Staring Out To Sea: Hurricane Sandy Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Maureen Piasecki and John Piasecki, New Jersey locals, tell their story of Hurricane Sandy. They first believed that the storm was not going to cause any serious damage but still prepared as well as they could by stocking up on candles and water. The storm caused their basement and garage to become flooded, their pool and fence were destroyed, and many belongings were lost. The couple also had no heat until the 20th of December. Their neighborhood was devastated by the storm. Many neighbors lost furniture and took extensive damage to their homes. Many roads were destroyed and major highways were shut down. FEMA and the National Guard assisted the community by providing money and supplies to their community.Interview Accession
