Project: Apoyo KY: Supporting Hispanic/Latinx Communities in Kentucky Oral History Project

Interview Summary

In the first part of the interview, Victoria describes her early life growing up in Mexico City. She discusses poverty, family life, religion, crime, school, and the factors that ultimately led her to decide to emigrate to the United States. She describes her first impressions upon entering the United States and her experiences integrating into American culture and society. In the second part of the interview, Victoria describes how she came to Kentucky and the work she has done for the past twenty years as co-investigator for the Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program (KCHIP) grant. She credits her motivation to help Hispanic people to her own life experiences and urges empathy for those forced to leave their own country.
