Interview with Lynn Kennedy, September 23, 2020
Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Lynn Kennedy served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines from August 2008 to November 2010, in the Education Program. Kennedy learned about Peace Corps in fifth grade, and was excited that they were 'born' on the same date in 1961. She applied in her late 40s, while in mid-career as an educator. Tagalog language, culture, and education training were conducted in a community outside of Manila, and in Batangas City, Philippines. Kennedy was hospitalized due to a parasitic infection during training and considered leaving, but did not. Her post was also in Batangas, at Batangas State University, where she taught English, art history, and health and wellness. Her major accomplishments included initiating environmental awareness education, and establishing learning resource centers. Kennedy discusses her application process, training, living with host families, collaboration with local counterparts, and travels. She also discusses her experience as an older volunteer.Interview Accession
