Interview Summary

Michael Parker, a former TVA employee, begins the interview by detailing how he was hired to work in TVA's Architectural Branch. Parker discusses his first position in the Architectural Branch during the early 1970s. The interviewee then discusses his promotion within the Architectural Branch. Parker characterizes the dynamics of the Architectural Branch. Parker discusses how his work has been recognized outside the Tennessee Valley. Parker then talks of a barn reconstruction project he participated in to help farmers who had lost their barns due to flooding. The role of S. David Freeman in initiating TVA's work in solar energy is explored. Parker explains his role in developing a solar homes program in the Tennessee Valley. Parker's work on the construction and design of TVA’s Chattanooga Office Complex is examined. The unique elements of the office complex are discussed. Parker talks of his career shift in TVA from architecture to development and training. The interviewee shares his memories and accomplishments at TVA. To conclude the interview, Parker provides his final thoughts on being a TVA employee.
