Interview Summary
In this interview, Morris S. Collier, who served with Company D, 192nd Tank Battalion, discusses the action he saw in the Philippines. He describes tank incidents, Japanese airplanes attacking an American tank, and a small bomb hitting a tank. Collier talks about trying to avoid enemy airplanes and abandoning tanks. He describes Japanese/American engagement at Corregidor, falling back to Bataan, and his experience as a wounded soldier. Collier discusses preparation for surrendering, destroying tanks, and an earthquake experience. He describes surrendering to the Japanese, experiences on the Bataan Death March, and hospitalization. Collier also talks about his experiences as Cabanatuan, working in a coal mine at camp in Honshu, and undergoing appendix operation. He discusses the atomic bomb, shock waves, passing by Hiroshima, and airdrops by American airplanes. In addition, Collier talks about his homecoming.Interview Accession
