Interview with Terry L. Mann, June 20, 2006
Project: Kentucky Legislature Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Mann (House 1972-1986, 67th district; Democrat) recalls growing up in Newport in an atmosphere different than that of most of the state, college experiences, and an early introduction to politics by way of campaigning for Robert Kennedy. He discusses his campaigning approach and how that has changed over the years, experiences as the youngest member of the legislature, legislation on the Equal Rights Amendment, abortion issues, ambitious sponsorship of legislation, the Northern Kentucky Caucus and how practical issues have forced a bond between the counties in that area. Mann laments some of the decisions he made in attempts to guide his career beyond the House, and expresses dismay at the loss of a collegial atmosphere in the current legislature.Interview Accession
