Interview Summary

This interview with professor and former Aligarh Muslim University student Habib Ur Rahman begins with a discussion of his life before and after the partition of India. He talks about the difficult choice that Aligarh Muslim University students faced when Pakistan was created--either to remain in India and complete their studies or migrate to Pakistan. Rahman then moves on to talk about the importance of interfaith tolerance, as well as the history of Aligarh Muslim University. He talks about the role of Islam in the creation of Bangladesh, as well as the Islamic political party Jamaat-e-Isalmi. Rahman then discusses the role of Islam in the Pakistan movement and in his personal identity. He talks about an independent Bangladesh and meeting Pakistani leader Mahomed Ali Jinnah. Finally, Rahman talks about the important things he learned in his time as a student at Aligarh Muslim University.
