This project focuses on life in Washington County, Kentucky. Interviewee Billy Tingle, owner of the Billy Tingle Dealership in Springfield, speaks of growing up on a farm in Washington County during the 1930s and 40s. He discusses his education, growing tobacco, the effects of the Great Depression on his family, and his relationship with his father. Tingle also reminisces about his time in Illinois, his work at factories, and his first job as an automobile salesman in the early 1950s. He later elaborates on his career in car dealership, particularly the process of starting his own business.
